LED Floodlights

Outdoor floodlights are very common luminaires that are typically mounted on buildings or poles to provide for various outdoor and security illumination requirements. They can also be used to illuminate building facades and billboards. Floodlights generally have a wide beam angle to cover a large area, hence the term, ‘flood’ light. LED Flood Lights are the best energy efficient solution to replace traditional Halogen and HID flood lights. They have been available for many years and LED technology keeps getting better. We have seen major improvements in LED flood light efficiency and lifespan which further contributes to energy and maintenance cost savings.

Traditional lights are typically Halogen or HID fixtures powering High Pressure Sodium (HPS), Metal Halide (MH) or Mercury Vapour (MV) lamps that use a massive amount of energy. They are also inefficient. A lot of the energy used to power the lamps is wasted as invisible heat. They experience a fairly quick lumen depreciation curve and also require long warm-up times and can’t be turned on and off frequently as this drastically reduces their lifespan.

LED flood lights offer many benefits. They are extremely energy efficient, saving between 40-90% in energy costs depending on the technology that is replaced and the efficiency of the LED floodlight used. It is very important to compare the lumen outputs of LED floodlights as this tells you how bright the LED is. The wattage only tells you how much energy the lights consume. A high lumen/watt (lm/w) figure tells you that the light is more efficient and will provide more light per unit of energy. LED flood lights also last much longer, experience much slower lumen depreciation and do not have a warm up time. They achieve full brightness instantly and can be switched as frequently as needed. Another major advantage, especially when replacing HPS floodlights is that the LEDs have a much higher CRI which provides far greater visibility in the areas used.

Due to their long life, LED flood lights save a massive amount in maintenance costs. 5-year warranty floodlights have a useful lifetime of at least 50,000 hours. That means if the flood lights are run for 12 hours a night (often much shorter than that); they can last more than 11 years! The maintenance costs for traditional flood lights over that same time period for component replacements; labour; lifting equipment etc. make the decision to convert to LED flood lights easy… Installing LEDs is one of the best investments you can make thanks to the combined benefits in energy and maintenance cost savings.

We supply LED flood light luminaires to replace ANY traditional flood light fitting. We have various ranges available depending on your requirements.
